Individual therapy

I offer individual therapy in Maryland and New York. Here’s everything you need to know to get started.

Reclaim Asian American Womanhood

Reclaim Asian American Womanhood is an Internal Family Systems-informed group for Asian American women to heal from gendered racial trauma.

Consultation

I offer decolonizing, psychodynamic, trauma- and Internal Family Systems-informed consultation to licensed clinicians seeking help with cases involving trauma and dissociation (including dissociative identity disorder), co-morbid substance use, grief, intersecting social and personal identities, racial trauma, and cross-cultural and intergenerational considerations.

I can also help licensed BIPOC providers cultivate a nourishing private practice that is aligned with their values; treat racial microaggressions made by clients as teachable, reparative moments; heal from racial trauma; and/or invite more playfulness and open-heartedness into their work.

Please e-mail me (natalie@nataliehung.com) to see if we’d be a good fit.

Individual Therapy

First steps

Phone: Contact me for a free video consultation. I'll introduce myself, answer any questions, and discuss your needs for treatment. If you choose to move forward, we'll schedule an appointment for an initial 50-minute consultation.

Initial consultation: In our first session, you'll have a chance to see how I work as we discuss your history and treatment goals, and see if we're a good match. I'll provide my impressions and treatment recommendations, and provide referrals if I don’t think we’re a good fit.

Psychotherapy: If we agree to work together in psychotherapy, we'll tailor a treatment plan for you and discuss the terms of treatment (including frequency, priorities, and mutual expectations).  In general, I offer 50-minute sessions, once or twice weekly, depending on your needs and preferences.

Fee & Insurance

Maryland: My fee is $200 for a 50-minute psychotherapy or consultation session.

New York: My fee is $300 for a 50-minute psychotherapy or consultation session.

I am an out-of-network provider for most insurance companies. This means that after you meet your deductible, most insurance providers will reimburse you for a portion of the session fee. I can provide a superbill with the information you need for reimbursement.

Check with your insurance company about your out-of-network insurance benefits for mental health services.

Some questions you may ask:

  • Is a pre-authorization or referral from a physician required for treatment?

  • What is my deductible amount? How much do I have remaining?

  • What percentage of the psychotherapy session fee is reimbursed?

  • Is there a maximum covered amount per session?

  • Is there a limit on number of sessions covered per year?

  • When does the year begin?

  • Are certain diagnoses covered/not covered?

  • How do I file a claim?

Reclaim Asian American Womanhood

A Decolonizing, Internal Family Systems (IFS) Informed Therapy Group

Connect with other Asian American women who get it and restore your sense of dignity, belonging, and empowerment.

You may be a good fit for this group if you:

  • Are an Asian American woman

  • Live in Maryland or New York (or can be located there for sessions)

  • Often feel "not Asian enough” and/or “too Asian” depending on the context

  • Struggle to navigate predominately white environments and relationships

  • Often feel obligated to prioritize white people’s comfort at your own expense

  • Feel unsure of how to respond to microaggressions

  • Are tired of having to explain your gendered racialized experience and still feel like people don’t get it

  • Feel gaslit by others and yourself when speaking about hurtful racialized experiences

  • Feel chronically unseen as an Asian American woman, even by those close to you

  • Are committed to social justice, but feel a lack of clarity about your position within existing conversations

About the group

Spurred by rising anti-Asian hate and the Atlanta Spa shootings, I started this group in 2022 to close the gap between Asian American women’s need for support and the relative lack of available Asian American providers. I quickly realized that the group itself was a powerful conduit for individual and collective healing, and that Asian American women have a vital role to play in decolonization and imagining new ways of relating to the world.

The group content is inspired by my research on Asian American racialization, psychology, and psychoanalysis; my clinical experience with 1.5 and 2nd generation Asian American women; my training as a trauma and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist; and my lived experience as a cishet 2nd generation Taiwanese American woman.

This group offers:

  • community and a sense of belonging with people who get it without explanation

  • guided in-depth exploration and clarification of your gendered racialized identities

  • language and frameworks for describing and understanding gendered Asian American racialization and its impact

  • potent skills for independent therapeutic work

  • a deeper connection to yourself and others

  • more confidence to take up space and find support in your life

  • an increased sense of compassion and self-acceptance, especially with regard to gendered Asian American racialization

  • extensive resources for further individual and collective healing
